Meet The Staff of David E. Miles
Funeral Home
David E. Miles Funeral Home has the
most compassionate staff one could put together. We are very fortunate
to have such a committed group of funeral directors, embalmers, and
assistants.
David is a graduate of Gupton-Jones
College of Mortuary Science, and is a native of Jeff Davis County. He
also attended Brewton Parker College and Florida Junior College. He is a
member of Pi Sigma Eta National Mortician Fraternity, the Academy of
Graduate Embalmers of Georgia, The Georgia Funeral Directors Association
(GFDA) and National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA). He was a
charter member of the Hazlehurst Kiwanis Club. David's father, Robert
Miles, founded Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst in 1963. David was
associated with Peeples Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fl before becoming
co-owner and president of his family's funeral home, a position which he
held until 1991 when he sold his interest in Miles Funeral Home in
Hazlehurst. David says the most rewarding quality about his job is being
able to help friends and families in their time of need.
Louise is also a licensed funeral
director and a member of the GFDA. Until moving to Baxley, Louise was employed with Kendall L.
Davis, C.P.A. of Hazlehurst as staff accountant and office manager. She
has taught computer classes at Altamaha Technical School. She is
employed as the funeral home secretary and bookkeeper.
Megan King is David and Louise
granddaughter. She lives in Jeff Davis with her husband Joel. Megan is
attending school in the fall to become a licensed funeral director and
plans to take over the funeral home once David and Louise retire. She is
a 2007 honor graduate from Jeff Davis High School. She is very
family-oriented and enjoys helping others in their time of need.
Nick Grimes is employed as a funeral
director's assistant. He lives in Appling County with his wife Aura.
Nick obtained his funeral directors and embalmers license in Texas in
1964. He also worked at the post office in Mt. Dora, FL for 22 years.
Nick and Aura own Renew It Upholstery Shop in Appling County. He is also
Deputy Coroner of Appling County.
Joan Carter is a life-long resident of
Appling County. She is married to James Carter who has sung with several
gospel groups. She has 16 years of experience in the funeral home
business. Joan has been with us for over a year and during that time she
has provided comfort and understanding to the families we have served.
Joan says, " I have learned through experience what it takes to provide
comfort to a family. I know because I have experienced what they are
going through. During a difficult time it is the small kindness that add
up to so much."
Alton Cauley is married to June Ryles
Cauley. Alton has three children and two step-children. He is a member
of Faith Baptist Church. He was born in Appling County. Alton was
employed with Satilla REA for 16 years before taking a job with the
Georgia Department of Labor as a field representative for 26 years. He
enlisted in the Army and served our country in Korea. Alton says he is
glad to be affiliated with David E. Miles Funeral Home and having the
opportunity to assist the members of his community during difficult
times.
Minnie Lee Davis is a funeral attendant
for the funeral home. She has lived in Baxley all of her life and was
married to the late Kelly "Snip" Davis and has worked with David E.
Miles Funeral Home for around 11 years and is a very dedicated and
compassionate to the families she assists. She volunteers at Appling
Healthcare system and is very active in her community.
Raymond Varnadore is a funeral directors
assistant. He has worked with the funeral home for about 3 years.
Previously he worked with Crisp Coon Funeral Home in Winter Haven,
Florida. He has also owned and operated several small businesses. He is
married to Winifred Varnadore and they attend Zoar Baptist Church. He
has four children, and enjoys spending time with his family, his animals
and is an avid fisherman.
